Dear Reader,
The two best things about Vegemite™ are:
- It tastes like Vegemite™
- It has a shelf-life of forever
The brand used to be Australian owned, but then it was purchased by a foreign company.
A foreign company that doesn’t seem to understand Vegemite™.
They’ve released a new product, where they’ve added cream cheese to Vegemite™, with the result that:
- It no longer tastes like Vegemite™
- You have to refrigerate it, and use it within four weeks
They’re so excited about this product, that they haven’t even got a name for it. They’re running a competition to let us name it.
OK. “Vegemould”.
To try to drum up interest in what is basically a staple of the Australian diet, the local site (?) has a place where you can tell them how you like your Vegemite™.
According to the figures the day i visited, 3.2% of people over 70 enjoy (as their top preference) Vegemite™ with cream cheese.
Nowhere else was cream cheese and Vegemite™ listed as a top choice of ways to have one’s Vegemite™.
So i don’t get it. What are they thinking?
It’s not like Kraft® don’t have an inkling about Vegemite™. If you go to their dot com site and search for “vegemite”, you get precisely one result: Australian Potato Salad.
Not that this potato salad *contains* Vegemite™. No. It’s mentioned in the notes.
Potato salad is just as much Australian as Vegemite. Australians love the great outdoors and you will almost, always find potato salad at the great old Aussie B.B.Q.
I think i prefer my Vegemite™ without the cruel irony, thank you.
Yours,
Gullybogan
